Baltic Watches

Baltic is proof that a microbrand can do more than just follow trends — it can set the tone for the entire scene.

From sharp vintage design cues to thoughtful case proportions and movements you can actually service, Baltic has become one of the most respected

enthusiast brands in the game. If you want something honest, wearable, and cool without being loud — Baltic delivers.

A Little History

Baltic was founded in 2017 by Etienne Malec, a French collector with a love for vintage watches and a sharp eye for detail. The brand launched with a

bang via Kickstarter, introducing the HMS and Bicompax 001, and immediately stood out for their vintage aesthetic, brushed finishing

and balanced proportions.

What started as a side project quickly turned into a serious player in the independent scene — helped along by solid component sourcing

credible design language, and the brand’s French workshop-based assembly model.

Today, Baltic continues to produce accessibly priced, enthusiast-grade watches that blend mid-century inspiration with modern build quality

— and they do it with an identity that’s all their own.

What Collectors Love

Baltic watches have earned real respect for being well-proportioned, thoughtfully finished, and priced right. The brand doesn’t try to overdo

anything — and that’s what makes it work.

Fan favorites include:

  • Bicompax 002 — a manual-wind chronograph with sector dials, domed acrylic crystals, and symmetrical balance.

  • HMS 002 — classic three-hander with a stepped case and elegant mid-century dial options.

  • Aquascaphe — the brand’s diver: sapphire bezel, 200m WR, great lume, and vintage charm.

  • Aquascaphe GMT — same design DNA, with traveler utility and subtle two-tone bezels.

  • MR01 — a micro-rotor dress watch that feels way more expensive than it is, thanks to Guilloché-style dials and slim cases.

Movements range from Seagull ST1901 (manual chrono) to Miyota automatics, and now include custom micro-rotor calibers in the MR01 series.

Why Baltic Deserves a Spot

Because Baltic actually gets it. They’re not just copying vintage styles — they’re studying them, respecting them, and making them wearable today.

You’re getting smart case sizes (usually 36–39mm), clean typography, and just the right amount of detail. Plus, they keep prices reasonable

movements serviceable, and straps surprisingly well-made.

For under $1K, very few brands come close in terms of design integrity and collector appeal.

What’s Out There Now

Baltic’s lineup rotates with limited editions, but core models include:

  • Bicompax 002 — 38mm, ST1901 hand-wound, domed crystal, 1940s chrono energy

  • HMS 002 — manual or automatic three-handers, stepped case, dressy but versatile

  • Aquascaphe Classic & GMT — 39mm diver with vintage tool-watch specs

  • MR01 — 36mm micro-rotor with Breguet numerals and decorative finishing

  • Tricompax Chronograph — modern-meets-retro three-register auto chrono

Pricing ranges from $350–$1,800 depending on complication and case material. Limited editions tend to sell out quickly — especially collabs

or bronze-case models.

Fed’s Take

Baltic is one of the few microbrands that feels grown-up.

Every piece I’ve handled — from the Bicompax to the Aquascaphe GMT — has punched way above its weight. Great proportions, good lume

crisp dials, and thoughtful touches like brushed midcases and domed crystals.

It’s not hype. It’s just good design. If you’re building out a collection and want a daily-wearable piece with real taste, Baltic is one

of the smartest buys out there.
