Junghans Watches

Junghans Watches

Junghans is one of those brands that doesn’t yell — it whispers. And that’s what makes it special.

This is German minimalism at its best. Clean dials. Balanced proportions. Historical depth without the baggage. If you’ve ever looked at a Max Bill and

thought, “Yep, that’s the one,” — you’re not alone.

A Little History

Founded in 1861 in Schramberg, Germany, Junghans started as a clockmaker and quickly scaled up to become one of the largest watch and timing

device manufacturers in the world by the early 20th century.

They were pioneers in chronometry, military timekeeping, and design-forward wristwatches — but their most iconic moment came in the

1950s, when they collaborated with Swiss Bauhaus designer Max Bill.

The result? A collection of wristwatches and wall clocks that still define Bauhaus watch design to this day.

What Collectors Love

Junghans offers a rare combo: design integrity + affordability.

The highlights:

  • Max Bill Collection — minimalist dials, curved plexi or sapphire, slender hands, and typography that makes graphic designers weep with joy. Available in hand-wound, automatic, chronograph, and quartz.

  • Meister Series — vintage-inspired dress watches with sunburst dials, domed crystals, and just enough retro warmth to wear with a suit or a knit polo.

  • Chronoscope models — classic German-style bicompax chronographs with just the right amount of presence.

Collectors love Junghans for the purity. There’s no fake patina. No overbranding. Just a straight line from Bauhaus to your wrist.

Why Junghans Still Belongs in the Conversation

Because few brands stick to their aesthetic this consistently — and still deliver value across the board.

These are wearable, elegant, modern classics that appeal to design heads, vintage nerds, and daily-wear guys alike. Whether you’re rocking a

hand-wound Max Bill or a sleek Meister Pilot chrono, the vibe is always: I have taste, and I don’t need to shout about it.

And for the money? You’re getting real horological lineage, not just another minimal microbrand.

What’s Out There Now

Junghans continues to iterate across its three core collections:

  • Max Bill — available in 34mm and 38mm, with automatic or hand-wound movements, and even some limited editions with color accents or special typography.

  • Meister — more formal, with options like moonphase, day/date, and chronoscope complications.

  • Form and Force lines — sportier, contemporary takes with chunkier cases and more dial variety.

Pre-owned Max Bills are always in demand — especially hand-wound models with original plexi crystals and the “Made in Germany” dial signature.

Fed’s Take

Junghans is one of those brands I always recommend when someone says, “I want something clean, classic, and under the radar.”

The Max Bill line in particular? It’s perfect. Slim, modern, a little artsy without being precious. I’ve sold dozens over the years and never had one come

back with regrets.

If you appreciate great design, and you actually wear your watches, Junghans is a no-brainer.
