Devon Watches

Devon doesn’t tick. It hums.

This is the watch that broke the internet when it launched — powered by belts, microstep motors, and aerospace-level engineering, not springs or gears. It’s loud, it’s American

and it looks like something Batman would wear to a black-tie gala.

Devon isn’t just a watch. It’s a machine for your wrist.

A Little History

Devon Works was founded by Scott Devon, an entrepreneur and designer who originally made waves in the luxury automotive world. In 2010, he launched Devon Tread 1

a wristwatch powered not by a traditional movement, but by a system of interwoven time belts, each driven by its own independent motor.

The result? A mechanical-electronic hybrid that displays time in a way no one had seen before — with exposed belts rotating in real time to show hours, minutes

and seconds. It wasn’t just unconventional — it was patented, engineered in California, and instantly recognizable from across the room.

What Collectors Love

Devon watches are pure industrial performance art. Highlights include:

  • Tread 1 — the original icon: 53mm × 47mm, four microstep motors, five-bearing system, and an open chassis that reveals every moving belt

  • Tread 2 — a more compact follow-up, with push-button setting, belt-driven hours/minutes, and battery-powered hybrid functionality

  • Futuristic design — aircraft-grade materials, exposed screws, and a chassis that looks like a supercar engine

  • High torque motors and optical sensors — driving the belts with devastating mechanical precision

And while it’s battery-powered, make no mistake: this is not quartz. It’s a proprietary electromechanical system, designed and assembled in the U.S., and unlike anything else in horology.

Why Devon Deserves a Spot

Because it had the guts to do something truly different — and did it well.

Devon is one of the few American brands that didn’t just borrow from Swiss heritage. It invented a new way to tell time, built around aerospace tech and raw visual impact.

And despite the drama and limited production, the Tread 1 remains one of the most iconic modern watch designs of the last 20 years.

It’s bold. It’s polarizing. It’s mechanically mesmerizing.

What’s Out There Now

Devon’s original production run was limited, and the company went quiet after the early 2020s. But pre-owned examples still command attention — and strong resale value.

Popular models include:

  • Tread 1 Stealth / Tread 1 F / Tread 1G — all variations on the open-chassis belt machine, with different finishes (black DLC, gold, etc.)

  • Tread 2 Nightmare / Shining / Murder / Blade — more compact, sportier variants with unique textures and colorways

  • Custom Editions — some released in collab with automotive or design brands

Expect pricing from $10,000 to $25,000+, depending on model and condition. The Tread 1 Stealth and Gold variants are especially sought-after.

Fed’s Take

Devon is watchmaking for gearheads.

I’ve handled the Tread 1 and it’s like strapping a miniature engine block to your wrist — in the best possible way. The belts move with surgical precision, the hum is addictive

and the way it lights up when you check the time? Pure cinematic cool.

If you’re into Hublot, Urwerk, or anything that feels engineered, Devon is a no-brainer. There’s nothing else like it — and there probably won’t be again.
