Clerc Watches

Clerc

Dive watches… turned up to eleven. Clerc is not subtle. But that’s kind of the point. These are watches that look like they were designed for deep-sea mercenaries who moonlight

as sci-fi villains — big cases, chunky bezels, and bold styling. But underneath the muscle? Legit Swiss watchmaking with a surprising amount of history.

If you want a diver that doesn’t look like every other Sub knockoff, Clerc might be your guy.

Brand History

Founded in 1874 in Geneva, Clerc has over a century of horological roots — though you’d be forgiven for thinking they were born in the 2000s based on their modern lineup.

Originally, Clerc produced refined dress watches and chronometers, supplying royalty and diplomats. But over the last few decades, the brand completely reinvented itself.

Think: boutique dive watches with overbuilt specs, industrial design, and deepwater credibility.

While the look is aggressive, the horology underneath has always been solid — Swiss-made movements, custom-modified calibers, and real technical chops.

Collector Highlights

Clerc isn’t dropping 50 models a year. They focus on a tight range of high-spec divers with serious wrist presence:

  • Clerc Hydroscaph H1 & H1 Chronograph – The flagship line. 500–800m water resistance. Unique crown guards. Articulated lugs. Looks like it came off a movie set (in a good way).

  • Hydroscaph GMT Power Reserve – Adds real-world travel utility to the underwater beast mode.

  • Vintage Clerc Chronometers – Pre-rebrand pieces from the mid-20th century occasionally surface. Classic, elegant, and a total style 180 from today’s models.

Most modern Clerc models use customized ETA or Soprod movements, housed in patented cases with complex construction. This isn’t throwaway design — it’s engineered drama.

Why Collectors Care

Because sometimes you want a diver that isn’t trying to be a Rolex. Clerc watches have real personality — and in a market flooded with homage pieces and minimalist clones, that’s rare.

They’re also incredibly well-built. Screw-down everything. Multi-part cases. High depth ratings. Bold dials with lume for days. These are tool watches with a designer twist.

And because they’re low-volume and under the radar, resale prices tend to be collector-friendly — especially if you want something different without sacrificing quality.

Modern Watches & Current State

Clerc continues to focus on its Hydroscaph platform, releasing incremental updates and limited editions rather than chasing trends.

Design-wise, it’s a love-it-or-hate-it aesthetic. But if you love it, nothing else really compares.

This is a niche brand with niche appeal — and that’s exactly why it has a loyal following.

Fed’s Take

I’ve always had a soft spot for Clerc. They’re weird in the best way.

The watches wear big, feel overbuilt, and absolutely make a statement. Not the kind of thing I’d throw on with a tux — but if you’re headed to the beach or just want

something with presence? A Hydroscaph will do the trick.

Bonus: every time I’ve handled one, the build quality was better than I expected. That’s always a win.
