Carl Suchy and Sohne Watches

Carl Suchy & Söhne Watches

Austrian, minimalist, and just a little mysterious — Carl Suchy & Söhne is one of those brands that quietly reemerged from history…

and somehow came back cooler than ever.

These aren’t loud watches. They don’t scream for attention. But they reward a closer look—clean dials, thoughtful mechanics, and a Viennese design

ethos that’s all about precision and restraint.

A Little History

Carl Suchy & Söhne originally dates back to 1822, when Carl Suchy began crafting fine pocket watches in Prague. The brand eventually became the

official watchmaker to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, supplying timepieces to aristocrats, industrialists, and even Emperor Franz Joseph I.

At its peak, it was the prestige watch brand of Central Europe.

Like many independent European watchmakers, the brand disappeared after World War II. But in 2017, it was revived by a team of Austrian

entrepreneurs and Swiss watchmakers, aiming to blend 19th-century heritage with modern design and contemporary horology.

What Collectors Love

The modern Carl Suchy & Söhne lineup is extremely curated — just a handful of models, all carefully designed, and all produced in very small batches

(we’re talking under 100 pieces a year).

The standout:

  • Waltz No.1 — their flagship model. Features a unique rotating seconds disk that “waltzes” once per minute, echoing the rhythm of Viennese dance. Powered by a beautifully finished Vaucher micro-rotor movement, and housed in sleek, polished steel or gold cases.

Other models include:

  • Table Waltz — a sleek desk clock with Bauhaus vibes.

  • Waltz No.1 Skeleton — same DNA, but with an openworked twist.

Collectors are drawn to the combination of minimalism, mechanical credibility, and artistic storytelling, plus the fact that these watches are truly rare.

Why Carl Suchy & Söhne Stands Apart

Because it doesn’t feel like anything else on the market.

The design language is very Austrian — clean lines, monochromatic dials, subtle asymmetry, and refined proportions. It’s modernist without being

sterile, artistic without being precious.

And beneath the minimalist surface? You get Vaucher movements, micro-rotor architecture, and top-tier finishing. That’s serious indie

watchmaking cred hiding behind a very elegant dial.

What’s Out There Now

The brand’s current production is limited to a few dozen pieces per model per year, mostly sold directly or through select boutiques in Vienna, Zurich, and Tokyo.

The Waltz No.1 is still the flagship, now offered in multiple dial variations (black, white, blue, and guilloché). The Skeleton and limited editions (like

the Day & Night) add collector depth, but they move fast.

Expect five-figure pricing and long lead times. But if you see one on the pre-owned market? Move fast.

Fed’s Take

This is one of those brands I admire, even if I don’t wear it daily. The details are sharp. The concept is strong. And the execution? Genuinely impressive.

I’ve handled one Waltz No.1 — and I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to give it back. It’s the kind of watch that says taste without needing to flex. And that

rotating seconds disc? Pure art.

If you know design, architecture, or horology… this one hits different.
