Azimuth Watches

Azimuth Watches

Azimuth is the watch brand equivalent of a concept car — bold, quirky, mechanical, and built to spark a reaction.

This is independent Swiss watchmaking with a sci-fi twist, where jump hours, wandering minutes, and satellite displays meet tanks, robots, and space capsules. If you’re bored of

the usual suspects and want something with pure wrist personality, Azimuth is your brand.

A Little History

Azimuth was founded in 2003 in Switzerland, but with strong ties to Singaporean founders and design influences. The brand made its name by doing the thing most indies

were too scared to try: build wildly unconventional watches that still use legit mechanical movements.

Their first big splash came with the Mr. Roboto series — a jump hour watch that looked like a vintage tin robot face. Since then, they’ve leaned all the way into thematic design

mechanical creativity, and offbeat storytelling.

These watches aren’t trying to blend in — they’re built to stand out.

What Collectors Love

Azimuth watches are loved for two things: pure mechanical fun and totally unique case design.

Collector-favorite lines include:

  • Mr. Roboto — the cult classic: a rectangular case that resembles a robot’s face, with wandering hour and retrograde minute complications cleverly disguised as eyes and mouth.

  • SP-1 “Spaceship” and “Landship” — tonneau-cased, spaceship-inspired jump-hour watches with viewing ports and exposed mechanisms.

  • Back in Time (BIT) — a line where the hour hand moves counterclockwise, messing with your brain (and your friends).

  • Crazy Rider — inspired by motorcycle engines and suspension systems, often with rotating time displays.

  • King Casino — roulette-themed, complete with spinning dial elements and gambling motifs.

Movements are mostly modified Swiss ETA or Unitas calibers, housed in custom-machined cases with sapphire crystals, creative displays, and layered dials.

Why Azimuth Deserves a Spot

Because it’s one of the very few brands making fun mechanical watches that aren’t gimmicky.

Yes, they’re playful. But underneath the quirk is real horological substance — solid movements, smart engineering, and limited production runs. Most Azimuth models are made

in small batches, and the brand has built a cult following that spans from sci-fi nerds to hardcore collectors.

If you love Urwerk, MB&F, or Konstantin Chaykin but want something more accessible (and wearable), Azimuth hits that niche.

What’s Out There Now

Azimuth’s current lineup includes:

  • Mr. Roboto R2 and R3 — modern updates with titanium cases, lume accents, and upgraded displays

  • SP-1 Mecanique “Spaceship” — wandering hours inside a space pod-style case

  • BIT Series — minimalist and off-center reverse time displays

  • Crazy Rider and Twin Turbo — moto-inspired with visible gear trains and chain motifs

  • Occasional limited editions — often numbered under 100 pieces

Pre-owned models pop up occasionally — and are often in surprisingly good condition, since these watches tend to be more collectible than daily-wear beaters.

Fed’s Take

Azimuth is one of those brands you have to handle in person to get it. Photos don’t do the dials justice. And the mechanics? Way smarter than they look.

The Mr. Roboto is a sleeper hit — jump hour, retrograde minutes, all in a retro sci-fi case that wears like a conversation starter. Every time I’ve had one in the shop, it’s been

a magnet for the guys who’ve seen everything else and want something fun.

If you’re a collector with a sense of humor, an appreciation for movement play, and a wrist that can handle a little flair — Azimuth is a very cool move.
